Things to do on a budget in London in January 2019

New Year and it’s a new you! Visiting London in January might be one of the best things you do in the whole of 2019.

It’s the quietest month of the year and you can see a lot more in the city than you can in other months where you probably have to queue for hours. The other most important thing is that it’s the cheapest month to visit the capital! This means that you can enjoy more shopping! More shopping in London means you can have more of what you want for less!

Speaking of shopping in January, London has a ridiculous sale on Boxing Day (26th December), which means if you are a shopaholic you will absolutely love Oxford Street and all the options you have in that famous shopping paradise. Plus, this year you are extremely lucky because we have the brand new Coal Drops Yard here at Kings Cross too! It’s literally a five-minute walk from our hotel.  You don’t need to use public transport, so that means more pennies to spend on the goodies you want.

London has so many attractions that it’s impossible to see them all in a weekend, so that’s why we recommend choosing what you want to see wisely. You’ll get to see lots more attractions in January because there are fewer people and the best part is that many of them are free! Now, who doesn’t like freebies? Make the most of your stay in London by visiting free museums like the British Museum, seeing historic palaces and stunning art galleries, even catching free activities for the kids as well. And let’s not forget London’s exquisite parks, like Regent Park and Hyde Park, which you can enjoy every day and remind yourself to live in the moment, to be present in nature and breathe deeply.

Apart from London, where in the world can you experience dinosaurs and creepy crawlies, see portraits of Tudor monarchs, travel back to the Battle of Britain and see Darwin’s walking stick and the Lord Mayor’s 18th-century gold coach without spending one single penny? Wow! On top of all this, you can celebrate New Year in Central London this January with the annual parade of thousands of performers and colorful floats from across the world.

If you are considering travelling from Europe, and Paris to be precise, you can book your ticket with Eurostar. We’ll even give you an extra 5% off your hotel accommodation. Just enter SPECIALJAN at the check-out and book your stay with us.
